Children of the Mountain of Fire is a film directed by Mai Masri that has achieved great success. In this film, Mai Masri returns with the camera to her occupied city, Nablus, after 15 years of absence, to break through the state of siege and curfew in the city, and tell the story of the Palestinian children’s uprising at its peak. The film tells the experience of the children of the first intifada, and depicts their stories, suffering, and hope for a better future. It is a film that was filmed in secret, as Masri said: “We were hiding and filming in secret, through the openings of windows and walls, while the Israeli army was killing people.” This film helped Mai Masri get to know a new Palestine at a very crucial time, and for her, this film became a model for filmmaking under siege.
