The film's events are based on the last part of the novel "Al-Harafish" by the writer Naguib Mahfouz. In the old Cairo area, in the era of bullies and thugs, the bully Hassouna Al-Sabaa (Hamdi Ghaith) imposes large fees on the people of the neighborhood and goes to extremes in oppressing and humiliating them. Hassouna oppresses the family of Ashour Al-Naji (Ezzat Al-Alaili), whose circumstances fluctuate between wealth and extreme poverty. Hassouna forces him to divorce his wife (Taisir Fahmy) and leave the neighborhood, then tries to force her father and the notary to marry her to him before the end of the waiting period. Ashour stands in the face of injustice, along with the oppressed people of the neighborhood.
