Your rating:

Based on Ghassan Kanafani's novel, 'Returning to Haifa,' this film, set in 1967, centres on a Palestinian couple who return to the war-torn city to search for their young son Farhan, whom they were forced to abandon when fleeing Zionist acts of terrorism in 1948. Saeed and Atefeh's own house has even been taken over by a Polish Jewish family, who, it transpires, are holding Farhan hostage. It is up to the couple, with the assistance of Farhan's steely grandmother, to find a way to reclaim their lost son. One of the few Iranian films to tackle the Palestinian issue from a historical perspective, this stunning piece of work from Seifollah Daad features meticulous attention to period detail and moving performances.

* “Returning to Haifa”

By Hakam Ghanem

The film is based on the story of the Palestinian writer Ghassan Kanafani “Returning to Haifa” and acted as he did not adhere to the narrative context of the occurrence, but rather set his conception and understanding of the significance of the story originally and that the Arab-Palestinian conflict with the Zionist-Jewish over the land of Palestine does not only want the land, but all that is on it of neighborhoods, trees and stones. So the prohibition made by the Iranian director, Saifullah Dad, was that this conflict does not end at certain borders, but rather in ending the other.. And the director left us this ending to tell us that belief in truth must reverse endings, even if they are told by stories.. and this leads to a movie. Returning to Haifa” by Qasim Hawal, who directed it in 1982 AD, and in it he was the curator of the fictional text.
